Just as the recent storm swept through the northern region the prior day, the home side swept the visitors aside at the their home ground. It was a statement three goal win for the City coach's side thanks to goals from Knaak, Bunny Shaw and Lauren Hemp. It was a performance that truly announced their leadership claims as they reinforced their position at the league summit.

Back-to-Back Losses for Manchester United

This result signalled consecutive WSL defeats for Marc Skinner’s side for the maiden instance since May 2024, putting them seven points off the table toppers with their title hopes hanging by a thread.

United’s ability to manage league and European football with a thin team has been a frequently analyzed subject since they secured entry to the European competition. Looking at the calendar, it always felt like this was the matchday that would fully examine this ability. Sadly for the visitors, they appeared fatigued from start to finish, the historic win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having had an impact.

Lineup Adjustments

Overpowering Start

After the Break

The most obvious change came from the United manager at the break as Melvine Malard entered for Elisabeth Terland but by this time it was too late to change the course of the contest. Ex- City player Jess Park came closest, hitting the woodwork, but the visitors were creatively abject and did not manage to record a single shot on target.

The home side, on the other hand, could have increased their lead when a delightful Vivianne Miedema pass sent Shaw away only for her to miss the chance but it was insignificant to the hosts. Previously unable to beat any opponent who finished above them the previous campaign, Jeglertz’s side now have wins against Arsenal and United to place them in a strong position after nine games.
