PSG Edges Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Claim French Super Cup in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

PSG has now secured the season-opening trophy on fourteen separate occasions.

The Parisian giants needed a dramatic leveler followed by a successful spot-kick decider to overcome Marseille in the Gulf and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The European champions seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable triumph in the showdown featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the Coupe de France holders after the French winger found the scoring early on.

However, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. Initially, the English forward converted from the penalty spot, before the defender unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable turn of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a crucial equaliser in the final moments to force the match into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive kicks from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored with composure for PSG to complete a convincing shootout win.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the past thirteen seasons.
